I found this link on that Sun Spot site that shows a cycle for sun activity. It appears that we are in an absolute trough for sun spot activities. If I can just hold on to my excitement until 2015, My chances of seeing the northern lights will drastically improve. That night in 2001 that we saw the lights was during the last sun spot peak. Oh well. On the bright side, my chances of seeing the northern lights can only improve from here on out.

Darn it. Who knew that sun spot cycles are every 10 years?!
I guess it is something they don't teach you in schools. Or
Nobody really knows, it could be as long as 40 years.
